The owner of Louis Vuitton LVMH will soon begin making hand sanitiser for hospitals throughout France.

The French luxury goods group will be producing the antibacterial gel at three of its perfume and cosmetics factories as early as today, March 16, to help tackle the nationwide shortage of the product.

Around 12 tonnes of hand sanitiser are expected to be produced at the three French sites in the coming days, in place of the Christian Dior and Givenchy products usually made there.

The gel will be delivered ‘at no charge’ to health authorities throughout the country, in particular the 39 public hospitals in Paris, the group announced in a statement on Sunday, March 15.

The statement continued, as per BBC News:

LVMH will use the production lines of its perfume and cosmetic brands… to produce large quantities of hydroalcoholic gels from Monday.

LVMH will continue to honour this commitment for as long as necessary, in connection with the French health authorities.

It comes as a spokesperson for the Paris hospital system described the supplies of hand sanitiser as ‘strained’, The Guardian reports, adding that other companies have also said they will donate supplies as and when is needed.

President Emmanuel Macron is expected to address the country tonight regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, which France’s director general of health Jérôme Salomon said today was ‘deteriorating very fast’.

Salomon told the France Inter radio network, as per France 24:

The number of cases double every three days. I want our citizens to realise that there are people who are sick, who are in intensive care and that (their number) runs into hundreds.

According to the latest official figures published yesterday, March 15, France has 5,423 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 127 people have died as a result of the virus.

France has closed its restaurants, cafes and non-essential stores in an attempt to prevent the spread of the virus further, although the country is now preparing for the introduction of much stricter measures.

LVMH’s decision to produce hand sanitiser in large quantities will likely be the first of many examples of large companies doing their bit to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governments across the world are in the process of calling on manufacturers to help make products that are running low, with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson expected to ask UK engineering firms later today to build ventilators for the NHS.

Sex In Private With Someone You Don’t Live With Is Illegal In England From Today

I regret to inform you that as of today, Monday, June 1, new coronavirus legislation has made it illegal to have sex in your own home with a person from another household.

Even though certain rules have started to be relaxed, it seems you should refrain from chatting someone up at an outdoor market, golf course or car showroom and bringing them home with you.

Health Protection Regulations have previously prohibited people leaving home without ‘reasonable excuse’. However, such measures have now been replaced with rules about where we can sleep and gather together, and this very much affects couples and sort-of couples who live apart.

According to the latest amendment to The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020 bill – which will today be laid down in law – couples living separately are not allowed to have sex indoors or to stay overnight at each other’s homes.

The new law states:

There is a gathering when two or more people are present together in the same place in order to engage in any form of social interaction with each other, or to undertake any other activity with each other.

With this legislation now in place, ‘no person may participate in a gathering which takes place in a public or private place outdoors, and consists of more than six persons, or indoors, and consists of two or more persons’.

It is also now illegal to stay somewhere outside of your home overnight ‘without reasonable excuse’. Such excuses may include moving house, attending funerals, work reasons, care provision or emergency assistance. Staying over at your boyfriend or girlfriend’s house is unfortunately not regarded to be a reasonable excuse.

Police officers in England have the power to arrest or fine those who break laws intended to protect people during the pandemic, with a default penalty set at £100. However, officers do not have the power to check inside private properties for such violations.

Many have taken to social media to joke that sex could still be on the table if things are kept alfresco, with award-winning author and anonymous Twitter legend The Secret Barrister writing:

Indoors, I should add. The government is happy for you to have sex with up to 5 other people in your garden.

Addressing questions about whether or not we could have been bonking our way across private properties prior to today, The Secret Barrister added:

To those asking ‘was this not illegal before?’, the answer is complicated. Reg 7 (prohibition on gatherings) didn’t apply to gatherings inside a private address. Reg 6 prohibited leaving your house, but *without reasonable excuse*.

Excitingly, this meant that there was scope for somebody to make a legal argument that leaving the house to have sex with a partner was a reasonable excuse. (Optimistic, perhaps, but if the govt approved the ‘eye test defence’, who knows?).

For all those pondering whether a back garden romp might be the way to go, this could sadly put you at risk of breaking public decency laws. And, unless you are supernaturally well-endowed, it’s unlikely you will be able to maintain a two metre distance at all times…

Ravers Set Up Dancefloor With Socially-Distanced Pens In Slovakia

A video has emerged of what appears to be the future of clubbing in Slovakia: partygoers dancing in separate ‘pens’ while separated by caution tape.

Revellers can be seen dancing along to music at an outside rave as the DJ stands on a makeshift stage, with those in attendance separated with bits of tape.

The rave, which took place underneath a bridge in Oravska Lesna, saw dancers separated on the ‘dancefloor’ so that each person had their own designated floor space which they had to stick to.

Luckily, the partygoers don’t seem to mind their new conditions and can be seen dancing enthusiastically – complete with masks – along to the electronic music. At one point, the camera even pans around to the DJ, who has a full setup including pyrotechnics.

Video footage of the party was first shared to TikTok, where users were quick to point out one small flaw with the layout. Well, quite a big flaw when you think about it.

That being that the dancers weren’t spaced the recommended 1.5 metres apart; in fact, if two people in consecutive squares stood next to the same piece of tape, they would be standing right next to each other.

‘When both people are standing close to the same “rope” then you don’t have 1.5 metre distance,’ one person wrote underneath the video, while another said: ‘That doesn’t work. If one stands at a corner and the other person stands at a corner diagonal to it they are 1 foot away or less.’

Others thought it was a great idea though, with one person describing it as ‘the future’. One person said it was, ‘actually cool, finally space to dance’, while another simply wrote: ‘This is awesome.’

Tono Katrenčík, who hosted the party, said:

We decided to have a party for maximum 100 people, but they must wear a face mask. That’s all legal in Slovakia. These people are all my friends from my village, Oravska Lesna.

It comes just a couple of weeks after Slovakia’s prime minister, Igor Matovic, eased the country’s strict lockdown, allowing public events with up to 100 people to go ahead as long as strict hygiene conditions were met.

Slovakia’s government imposed a tough lockdown early on in the crisis, before the country had reported any cases of the virus. According to the latest figures, there were 1,522 confirmed cases across the country and 28 reported deaths – among the lowest per-capita figures in the EU.

Obviously the lockdown worked, and hopefully the country will be able to continue its success as the measures are lifted.

A partygoer who attended a jam-packed Memorial Day pool party at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri has tested positive for coronavirus.

The news comes from Camden County Health Department, after it revealed that a case had been confirmed at the pool party, which took place at Backwater Jacks bar, as well as a series of other bars and public places.

The timing of the illness suggests that the partygoer was most likely in the incubating stage of the illness during the party, which means they could have been infectious to those around them.

Writing on Facebook, the health department wrote:

Camden County Health Department has been notified of a Boone County resident who has tested positive for Covid-19 after being in the Lake area on May 23 & 24. The case arrived here on Saturday and developed illness on Sunday, so was likely incubating illness and possibly infectious at the time of the visit.

Due to the need to inform mass numbers of unknown people, we are publicly releasing the following timeline, which was provided by the case. Investigation is in progress by Boone County Health Department, with Lake Area Health Departments assisting with local contacts.

There have been no cases reported in Camden County residents this week.

Ahead of the celebrations, on Monday, May 25, Backwater Jacks bar owner Gary Prewitt said he had decided to go ahead with the party, but confirmed guests would have their temperatures tested before entering the premises, adding that hand sanitiser was available for guests and social distancing rules would be adhered to.

‘No laws were broken,’ he said in a statement. ‘Social distancing is not a crime.’

However, photos have since emerged from the event showing crowds standing closely together, clearly not following social distancing guidelines, despite clear signs all around the venue telling people to stay at least six feet away from one another.

St Louis mayor Lyda Krewson has since requested that everyone who attended the party and failed to social distance to self-quarantine for two weeks.

‘If you were part of a group that didn’t socially distance or wear masks, please, for the health of your family, coworkers and friends, stay home for the next 14 days,’ she said.

‘This reckless behavior endangers countless people and risks setting us back substantially from the progress we have made in slowing the spread of COVID-19,’ County Executive Sam Page added in a statement. ‘I encourage everyone to follow the Department of Public Health advisory to determine a safe path forward in the workplace.’
