Give the people what they want, Marvel.

People from all over the world have gotten behind the movement to see the 4ft 10 actor cast as the wolf, who cited to be just 5ft 3 in the comic books – a far cry from Hugh Jackman’s 6ft 2.

On the petition, its author, Ring Arius, wrote:

The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman.

We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito.

Arius cited ‘a couple good reasons’ as to why he believes the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star suits the character.

He wrote:

Danny DeVito’s height is a lot closer to the comic books portrayal of Wolverine. With Danny being 4’10” and Wolverine 5’3″.

Secondly, we all saw Danny’s portrayal of the Trashman. So, we know he is fully capable of fighting, and that he is not afraid when things get dirty!

The top comment on the petition pretty much sums up the general response to the petition:

It’s f*cking Danny DeVito, enough said.

You said it.

And while fans have their eyes on the prize in terms of a DeVito shaped Wolverine, the actor has recently revealed he wants to make another Matilda.

In an interview with ComicBook ahead of the upcoming Jumanji: The Next Level, DeVito and his co-star Danny Glover were asked which of their past works they would like to revisit.

DeVito said:

I always wanted to do Matilda 2, but when the kid was still a kid. But that was like 20 years ago, 25 years ago. Maybe Matilda has a kid and we can do something with that, I don’t know.

Fortunately, Netflix is creating a whole range of animated Roald Dahl adaptations in the future, including Matilda.

Frozen star Josh Gad has endorsed Ariana Grande and Danny DeVito to be in the Disney live-action remake of Hercules.

Just days after Disney confirmed the reboot was taking place, fans went into a frenzy and starting crying out for who they wanted the cast to be.

Ariana Grande soon became a favourite for the lead role of Meg after performing the film’s I Won’t Say (I’m in Love) for ABC’s Disney Family Singalong.

The 26-year-old singer arguably wiped the floor with her co-stars after she performed all six harmonies for the song all by herself. Dedication, or what?

You can see it for yourself here:

Fans have also petitioned for the legend that is Danny DeVito to return to the Disney classic, after voicing the character Philoctetes in the original film 23 years ago.

Now, Josh Gad has jumped on the bandwagon, and has also endorsed the pair for the roles, calling them perfect for the film.

Speaking to Variety, the 39-year-old actor said, ‘[Ariana] would amazing as Meg, she would be perfect, I would love to see that happen’.

Gad was then asked whether he would be putting himself forward for any of the roles, with the interviewer mentioning the character Philoctetes in particular.

Gad responded:

I am good, I feel like I definitely have had and continue to have an incredible run of projects with the Disney company, but I don’t think anyone wants to see me take on yet another role in a live-action remake of an animated movie.

I personally think they should just cast Danny DeVito again, that’s seems to me the best option.

So far, it has been confirmed The Expendables and Zombieland: Double Tap writer Dave Callaham has been hired to re-write the 1997 classic.

Disney Is Developing Live-Action Hercules, Insiders SayDisney

Joe and Anthony Russo have also confirmed to be producing the film and, via AGBO Film’s Twitter, they shared their excitement about their upcoming project.

On Friday, May 1, they tweeted:

The pegasus is out of the bag! We’re thrilled to share that AGBO & the @Russo_Brothers are producing the #Hercules remake! This was a favorite of Joe & Anthony’s kids growing up. We can’t wait to introduce new audiences to these character & their story! [sic]

If the Russo brothers work any of their Avengers magic on Hercules, I’m sure it’ll be a smash hit. Can’t wait.

After much speculation, it turns out the rumours are true: Disney is making a live-action remake of Hercules.

It was confirmed last night, April 30, that the studio has hired Dave Callaham to re-write the 1997 classic, but fans have got their own ideas about who should be cast.

Anyone who has seen the original animation will know that Danny DeVito voiced Philoctetes, the crochety half-human, half-goat, who served as a trainer of heroes – including Hercules.

And, it seems like Danny did such a good job that fans just won’t rest until bosses decide to sign him up to revive the role in the live-action remake.

‘If Danny DeVito doesn’t get cast as Phil I will RIOT,’ one fan tweeted, while another added: ‘If Danny DeVito isn’t cast, then there is literally no point to watch this.’

Another Hercules fan, who isn’t keen on the idea of a remake, wrote:

I hate the fact that this is being done… But I will give it significantly less late if Danny DeVito is still Phil.

The original Hercules movie, released in 1997 and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, is a fictional story based on legendary Greek hero, Hercules. The film sees him go on a journey to Mount Olympus, with Phil by his side, where he must prove himself as worthy to the Gods.

Given fans’ reactions, it just goes to show how popular DeVito was in the iconic role, so it’s certainly worth considering for the studio.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, would produce the remake under their AGBO banner.

While rumours have been floating around for several weeks on who could be cast in the remake, the reality is the production is in very early stages, and therefore, is far from the casting stage.

Disney

It’s impossible to know whether Disney will stick to what it knows and keep Hercules close to the original animation, as done with The Lion King, or whether it will be more like upcoming Mulan, which is set for release on July 24 and is said to be only loosely based on the 1998 animation.

Dave Callaham is known for writing the Expendables franchise, Marvel’s forthcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, while he’s currently working on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. So, we can probably expect action, action and some more action.

Having already played some cracking villains in the course of his career, Danny DeVito will be portraying the Devil himself in the upcoming animation series Little Demon.

Little Demon comes from the DeVito’s Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, ShadowMachine and FX Productions, with Rick & Morty co-creator Dan Harmon executive producing.

The pilot for this dark humoured animated comedy will reportedly kickstart production as of next week, after having been given the official go-ahead from FX.

DeVito, 75, will star alongside his daughter Lucy DeVito and Aubrey Plaza, with the series appears to be give a comic take on horror narratives explored in films like Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen.

As per Deadline, Plaza, 35, will play a woman who was impregnated by the Devil 13 years ago, with Lucy playing their demonic progeny.

Despite their highly unusual circumstances, the mother and daughter attempt to live out ordinary lives in Delaware.

However, their attempts at normality are thwarted at every turn by ‘monstrous forces’. Not least by Satan, who is after getting custody of his young daughter’s soul. Marriage Story this one most definitely isn’t.

FX has reportedly wanted to launch a new animated series for several years now, and gave Little Demon the green light several months ago.

Animation is currently the only type of television which can stay in production during the outbreak, and so FX is pushing forward with the pilot whilst all live-action pilots and series remain stuck at a standstill.

Little Demon, which has reportedly been in the works since last summer, was created by Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla, who will all act as executive producers alongside Harmon.
