Flip Flop Socks Are A Thing And They’re Absolutely Hideous

I’ll be honest, in the face of what appears to be a calamitous future I’m trying to be a lot more positive about things.

I’ve tried Love Island and enjoyed it, I’ve put aside years of prejudice and started using Instagram, and I even offer my colleagues a hearty hello some mornings despite my misgivings about all of them.

And yet there are some things so f*cking stupid that I feel duty bound to retreat back under the warm quilt of cynicism, where I can hoot and holler in the dark, things like Flip Flop Socks.

Yes, you read that right, for once it wasn’t a typo, ‘Flip Flop Socks’ are a thing and they’re every bit as hideous as they sound.

They basically look like socks with giant holes in the heel and toes, and they seem about as practical as the advice self-declared business guru’s post on Linkedin.

Never mind the fact that socks and sandals should never meet in the first place, these things just look awful and I’m struggling to see what they’re designed to do.

OffTheHookbyJulie

Are they supposed to keep your foot warm or cold? Because the holes are going to guarantee that your toes, at the very least, are still cold but the wool means that the sole of your foot is going to be sweating.

It’s a confusing footwear nightmare and I disapprove of it entirely. That said if you’re slightly easier going about knitted abominations you can wear on your feet, you get yourself a pair on where else but Etsy.

Off The Hook by Julie sells the sockdals? Flip-flocks? Slop-flops? For the low, low price of £19.74 and the contrarian nature of the Internet means at least one of you reading this will like them.

To be fair though these aren’t the worst crime against fashion I’ve ever seen because we live in a world where clear PVC jeans exist for god knows what reason.

The jeans were sold by Top Shop last year and we can only guess they were testing quite how strict public decency laws were.

After all, can a police officer arrest you for wandering around in your altogether if you’re technically wearing trousers? Checkmate plod!

Topshop

The jeans, which were completely see-through, were made of Polyurethane and Top Shop advertised them as out-of-the-ordinary clear plastic jeans which are guaranteed to get people talking.

They weren’t wrong…

A lot of people pointed out that as the $100 (£55) jeans were made from plastic they wouldn’t breathe, which would mean your legs would get particularly hot and presumably sweat.

This sweat though would have nowhere to go and because the jeans are see through anybody and everybody would be able to see the sweat slowly filling up your horrible plastic trousers.

Lovely stuff.

Anyway, if you for some reason want these jeans they’re sold out so you’ll have to console yourself with some bloody sock flip-flop things.

A number of protesters staged a demonstration outside the Victoria’s Secret store on Oxford Circus, London.

The group of women were protesting against the fashion industry’s lack of diversity, and were reportedly walking through the store chanting ‘fashion has failed us’. Another woman carried a placard reading ‘we want diversity for all brands’, while another sign used the hashtag ‘fallen angels’.

The protest comes just days after the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show, which took place in New York earlier this week.

The show had already courted controversy after the brand’s chief marketing officer, Ed Razek, dismissed calls for the inclusion of plus-sized and trans models. He later issued an apology for his remarks.

Other signs at the protest read ‘Embracing every body type’ and ‘We want equality at Victoria’s Secret’, as MailOnline reports.

Videos posted on social media show the group of women getting changed into their underwear in the store, before marching through the shop.

The display appears to have been organised in collaboration with clothing brand Nunude.

Posting on Instagram, they wrote:

So today this happened – Nunude the first UK diverse brand proving skin tone underwear for ALL women collaborated with @love_disfigure campaigners of diversity.

We the Fallen Angels went to @victoriassecret and Oxford Circus – to demand more diversity! It’s not just about body Diversity or skin! It’s about every single difference! We are all equal! We are all loved and we are all beautiful.

While Love Disfigure, the campaign group also behind the protest, wrote:

Amazing Day shared with my lovely friends Fallen Angels campaigning for Diversity in the Fashion Industry.

We march into @victoriassecret and stripped down to our @nunnude_official underwear shouting we want diversity on our runways.

Then found ourselves in the middle of Oxford street calling for Change within the fashion industry.

After the annual Victoria’s Secret show, Ed Razek was asked about diversity on the catwalk.

Speaking to Vogue, he said:

It’s like, why doesn’t your show do this? Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is.

Razek later apologised for his remarks, however, saying:

My remark regarding the inclusion of transgender models in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show came across as insensitive. I apologise.

To be clear, we absolutely would cast a transgender model for the show. We’ve had transgender models come to castings… And like many others, they didn’t make it… But it was never about gender.

I admire and respect their journey to embrace who they really are.

The singer Halsey, who performed at the Victoria’s Secret show, also addressed the comments.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote:

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity, especially not on motivated by stereotype.

You Can Now Buy Socks With Your Best Mate’s Face On Them

Socks_webSuch a good present.

Socks with best friends face onPrezzyBox

Have you ever looked at someone’s face and just thought, ‘I want you all over my feet?’.

That’s a pretty normal thought, so I assume you said yes. In which case, you’re in luck my friend.

There is a company out there who have specialised in creating personalised socks with the face of anyone you want printed onto them.

Socks with best friends face on

Prezzybox is the company behind the absolutely bizarre idea, and for the price of just £19.99, you can have your own pair of customisable cotton socks.

It could be your best friend, your pet, you could gift someone their worst enemy, or the random bouncer you got selfie with outside a club once.

Here’s how they describes the socks:

Walk a mile in their shoes, literally. These awesome socks, with your face on, allow your partner, best friend, or manager if you’re feeling brave, to carry you with them wherever they go. Just make sure they clean you regularly.

Made from soft poly cotton, available in three sizes and a choice of colours. Just upload a clear picture of your face of choice (your face, their face, Channing Tatum’s face, etc.) and we’ll deliver some sock and roll to their footwear.

Of course, you don’t have to put your mate’s face on there, you could have your dog printed on them and teach him to ‘heel’, or even your ‘sole mate’ if you’re so inclined.

Don’t think you have to limit the picture to someone you like either. If you want to get some super passive-aggressive revenge, you could get someone you’re not too fond of printed on them

Just imagine the petty glee you’ll feel as you subject a picture of your ‘mate’ who chews with his mouth open, or the boss who overlooked you for promotion to your stinky feet.

Socks with best friends face on

It’ll be glorious, and best of all, they’ll never know you’ve taken sweaty revenge on them.

I can’t think of a better option for the office ‘Secret Santa’.

According to research conducted last year, personalised socks can’t be any worse than some of the gifts people get for Secret Santa as one-third of Brits go for a ‘funny gift’ for their colleagues at Christmas time.

While most people don’t seem to mind the sillier gifts, the study – which sampled 1,500 working adults and was conducted by V.I.Poo – found 53 per cent of people said it was important to buy something thoughtful.

Furthermore, they found one in five of Brits surveyed said they always opt for a present which refers to a private joke between themselves and their recipient of the present.

It’s nice to know some people put some real thought into their gifts, as opposed to wandering into Boots and finding the first thing under the price limit.

I can’t think of a better and more personal stocking filler, and if you don’t fancy socks, Fire Box sell personalised car air fresheners with any face of your choosing, and Etsy are offering personalised temporary tattoos.

I’m sure we all have that self-centred friend who would welcome any item adorned with their own face.

Cara Delevingne Goes Bald And Looks Like Gollum In Throwback Video

The actress and model Cara Delevingne has taken to social media to share a scarily realistic video of her Gollum impression, and it ain’t half bad.

After The Lord Of The Rings first came out, everyone was walking round doing Gollum impressions. I know I was. It was ‘my precious’ this and ‘my precious’ that, or ‘stupid fat Hobbitses’ to anyone that crossed you, right…? Just me?

Anyhoo, Cara has posted a throwback video of her uncanny Gollum impression, where she even went the whole hobbit and shaved her head – I imagine she shaved her head specifically for this 10-second video. You’ve got to commit to these things after all, I still have a taste for live fish straight out the stream to this day.

Cara shaved her head for a role in the film Life In A Year.

Speaking to Glamour about the buzz cut, she said:

[It felt] totally liberating. But it does feel like people read my mind more. I feel like people see my thoughts.

Well, if this Gollum video is anything to go by, I’m sure not we need to read your mind to know what you’re thinking…

Nonetheless, Cara is obviously comfortable in her own skin, which is something that should be encouraged in everyone.

Speaking to Elle about her attitude towards herself, she said:

Accepting that is an everyday process. It’s about loving yourself, making sure that you’ve taken time to respect yourself. It’s about not blaming yourself for everything.

Check out the Gollum video for yourself:

The model and actor was rocking the shaved head for quite a while, and though it’s one of the boldest cuts a person can sport – especially when you’ve built a career from your looks – Cara still attracted ridicule from vicious trolls.

Of course, she was more than ready to stand up for herself.

Taking to Instagram at the time, she said:

Its exhausting to be told what beauty should look like. I am tired of society defining beauty for us. Strip away the clothes, Wipe Off the make up, cut off the hair.

Remove all the material possessions. Who are we? How are we defining beauty? What do we see as beautiful?

The more we embrace who we are as people and rely less on our physical attributes, the more empowered we become. Beauty shouldn’t be so easily defined. It is limitless.

If you after something weirder to look at, check out out video of celebrities with symmetrical faces.

It’s a strange notion that people don’t have symmetrical faces – you’d think most faces were symmetrical, unless you were a Picasso painting or something – but when you see the results of making people’s faces symmetrical, you’ll be thankful you don’t have one, it’s super weird

Check it out:

A perfectly symmetrical face or an uncanny impression of Gollum? Think I’ll go for Gollum please, everyone needs a party trick after all.
