As the saying goes, all good things come to an end.

And though the producers of Big Brother arguably could’ve heeded the saying’s message some time ago, it seems they’ve got the point now, and have confirmed that the upcoming series of the show will be the last.

In a teaser tweet from Channel 5, they announced:

It’s time for this game to end.

The final series of Big Brother starts tonight at 9pm.

Featuring many of the previous series’ iconic eye imagery, the accompanying video also read, ominously, GAME OVER.

It had previously been rumoured that the show was facing cancellation due to falling ratings. The series’ contract was also expiring this year, according to Metro.

Earlier this year, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow said that Big Brother would not be making an appearance on the channel in 2019.

He said:

I have planned for a year without Big Brother. But never say never. The contract runs out at Christmas.

The program moved to Channel 5 in 2011, after 10 years and 11 series on Channel 4.

Brand New Louis Theroux Three-Part Series Coming In November

Theroux_webExactly what everyone needs.

Our seemingly eternal summer has ended (as all good things do), but luckily Louis Theroux is here to warm our souls with his dulcet tones and endearing humility.

True to Lou form, he’s been a tease about the whole thing and is being very mysterious about what his new documentary series will be about.

All we know is that the three-part series will be released in November and is set in America.

Speaking at The National Lottery Awards last night, Louis said:

I’ve got a series coming up, it’s coming out in November. I can’t say much about it.

But it’s a three-parter and it’s set in America. BBC 2.

It’s been two whole years since we last had some fresh Theroux, and we’ve really felt every single day.

If you need a Louis fix in-between now and November, which is highly likely, don’t forget that 70 of his brilliant documentaries were added to BBC iPlayer.

Just check out his series on the Miami Mega Jail or his Law and Disorder episodes to see the kind of situations the documentarian puts himself in.

Or if crime ain’t your bag, there’s his Louis Meets series, with one episode featuring a certain 70s TV personality which has taken on a whole new light since it was originally made.

Just check out his series on the Miami Mega Jail or his Law and Disorder episodes to see the kind of situations the documentarian puts himself in.

Or if crime isn’t your style, there’s his Louis Meets series, with one episode featuring his fascinating interview with Jimmy Saville before he died.

More recently, Louis made the Dark States series, in which he explores the ‘uniquely devastating challenges’ America faces, such as drug use, murder rates and sex trafficking.

In the first episode, Heroin Town, the popular broadcaster and documentary maker examines America’s love affair with prescription painkillers.

In another episode, Louis visits Milwaukee where, in certain areas, the murder rate is around 12 times the national average.

Louis also released My Scientology Movie in October 2016 which included actors playing out incidents people claim to have experience while in the strange church.

Speaking about his bucket list of interviewees, Louis said:

Trump would be amazing.

I always used to say R Kelly, because there were allegations over sexual misconduct.

But I think BBC 3 might have done a documentary about some alleged sexual misdeeds so that horse might have bolted.

I follow the Weinstein allegations avidly and I think there is something really interesting with that, but I haven’t figured out how you would get into it.

One thing we know for sure is that it won’t be a documentary broaching the topic of Daesh (Islamic State).

While doing a live Q&A on Twitter someone asked the fearless documentary-maker if there was one subject that due to ‘fear or otherwise’ he wouldn’t go near.

Louis responded saying the one topic he’d avoid would be coverage of the so-called Islamic State.

We can’t wait.

Watching The Kardashians Makes You A Worse Person, Study Claims

I mean, we always knew reality TV wasn’t great for us, but a new study from the academics at London School of Economics (LSE) have proven it.

It turns out that television shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians make you a worse person because they cause people to be less sympathetic to the poor.

Glamorous shows like that and Made in Chelsea can have a profound effect on anti-welfare sentiment even after just 60 seconds of exposure.

Author of the study, Dr Rodolfo Leyva, said:

Humans are inherently materialistic but also very social and communal.

The way this is expressed depends on our culture. If there is more emphasis on materialism as a way to be happy, this makes us more inclined to be selfish and anti-social, and therefore unsympathetic to people less fortunate.

This study can contribute to explanations for why the UK public’s support for welfare to aid the impoverished and unemployed has been decreasing during a time of rapidly growing wealth disparities, living costs, and rates of precarious and underemployment.

In the study, 487 adults were shown four adverts for luxury products, four tabloid photos of famous celebrities showing off their extravagant wares, and four newspaper headlines of rags-to-riches stories.

A control group was exposed to neutral images such as adverts about the London underground, natural scenery, and headlines about dinosaurs.

Both groups were asked a series of questions that measured their attitudes towards wealth and success, government benefits, and impoverished people.

The worrying results showed that even a small amount of exposure to materialistic media had a negative impact on both anti-welfare attitudes and support for anti-welfare policies.

Participants were asked about viewing of nine TV shows including The Apprentice, X-Factor, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and Made in Chelsea.

They were also asked about their reading habits concerning five daily tabloid newspapers that regularly showcase stories on wealthy celebrities, as well as ten magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, GQ, and Esquire.

Dr Levya, whose study was published in the journal Media Psychology, said:

Results suggest that momentary exposure to and regular consumption of materialistic media messages (MMMs) induces stronger materialism and anti-welfare attitudes.

The Apprentice, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and X-Factor are replete with MMMs that are engineered to absorb audiences into the glamorous world of wealth and celebrities and thus have a strong potential to function as cultivators of materialistic values and attitudes.

I don’t think it’s great for the people who appear in reality TV shows either after Grant Coulson (who?) said he was ‘too famous to get a job’.

This guy apparently briefly appeared on Geordie Shore and a dating show, which has now left him unable to get a job be due to his delusion of fame. Oh, and he thought the NHS should pay for a new set of white teeth for him so he can pursue his dreams of presenting.

Presenters Rylan and Sarah were having absolutely none of it and ran a number of vacancies around Newcastle by him – including a job in Foot Locker, bars and even a fish shop so he could pay for his teeth himself.

Rylan then told Grant the show had contacted a bar who could offer him work despite his fame and while he doesn’t seem too enthused about the idea, he made it clear how it’s better than the other options.

He responded:

I couldn’t work in a fucking fish shop though.

Naturally, chaos ensued online after these comments from…what’s his name again?

Reality TV ey? Can’t live with it, can’t live without it.

Emilia Clarke’s Incredible Game Of Thrones Tattoo ‘Is Spoiler For End Of Show’

As the end of Game of Thrones slowly approaches, fans and viewers are desperately looking for clues as to what might happen in the final series.

Set to air next year, the eighth season will be the last in the current GoT saga as we know it. The final series should hopefully bring the world of wildlings, dragons, white walkers and red witches to a satisfying conclusion.

The programme has graced our screens since 2011, providing good old fashioned escapism with more than a hint of bloody violence, questionable relationships, dark humour and the uneasy feeling that no character is safe from death.

As the actors prepare to say goodbye to the roles they’ve had and lived with for the past eight years, some of the cast are commemorating their time on the show in a number of ways.

While two actors married, Maisie Williams shared a bloody photo as a sign off, and Sophie Turner got herself inked with the House Stark sigil.

Now, Emilia Clarke has added herself to that list as she has also gone under the needle to get a permanent reminder of her role on the show as Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.

Nope, she didn’t get that mouthful tattooed down her arm, instead she got three dragons on the inside of her wrist.

Check it out:

Looking like she’s either finding the whole thing hilarious, or is still in pain, Emilia captioned the photo ‘MOD [Mother of Dragons] 4 LYFE!!!!’

The tattoo shows the dragons Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion (of whom she is the mother…) flying in formation.

If you’re in to Game of Thrones, then you’re in to fan theories. If you’re not, then can you even call yourself a fan? Probably not.

Now, I don’t want to alarm anyone, or get you too over-excited, but I’ve got a theory for the ages based off nothing but Khaleesi’s new ink. Hold on to your dragons…

As we all know, Viserion was tragically struck down by the Night King and became undead and into something resembling an ice dragon. Despite fans all over the world expressing their shock and sadness, no-one was as upset as the Mother of Dragons herself.

We all know what happened next as the white walker army marched through the Wall and into Westeros thanks to the ice-fire of the newly undead Viserion.

I hate to jump to conclusions but the caption attached to the picture of the new tattoo got me asking a lot of questions about what Daenerys is going to have to do in the final series of GoT. Namely, and not to be too blunt, she’s going to have to kill Viserion.

Her caption says she ‘aint NEVER forgetting her babies’. I appreciate this is fiction but that sounds a lot like a person who’s had to say goodbye to their child in a way no parent should have to suffer.

If you can identify a way in which Daenerys can bring Viserion back from the undead, I’ll happily say I’m wrong. I just don’t think there is a way given the relentless and mysterious nature of the Night King’s quest.

Without wanting to break any hearts, what happened to Viserion at the end of season seven is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his fate on the show. And the emotional turmoil some of our favourite characters (Khaleesi in particular) are going to have to go through in the upcoming final season.

It’s not much, but the caption is more than enough to suggest sacrifices are going to be made in Game of Thrones like we’ve not seen before – I’ve seen conclusions based off a hell of a lot less.

I’m putting my dragon eggs in the ‘RIP Viserion’ basket. If you don’t want to go through the heartbreak in about 6-7 months time, I suggest you come to terms with it and do the same.
