Fed up of being ‘housebound waiting to die’ due to being severely overweight, one man underwent a dramatic transformation losing half of his bodyweight in only two years.

Donald Baker from Ohio, has always struggled with his weight which has been fluctuating since he was young spending most of his childhood being ‘a chubby kid’.

Although he did lose weight on several occasions, Donald found that each time he would pile it all back on, weighing 28 stone five pounds (397lbs/180kg) at his heaviest.

Seriously affecting his health, Donald’s weight led to him suffering with rheumatoid arthritis and sarcoidosis – he had to have both of his knees replaced, have reconstructive surgery on his hands, as well as biopsies on both his lungs.

Physically unable to do much, Donald’s mental health also deteriorated meaning he felt like he was ‘housebound just waiting to die’.

Struggling to find any reason to attempt to lose weight again, two years ago a woman walked into Donald’s life, who would change everything becoming not only his girlfriend but his motivation too.

With encouragement to get out of bed and reassurance he isn’t a ‘failure’, Donald made dramatic changes to his lifestyle which helped him lose an astonishing 200 pounds over the past two years.

Halving his weight, Donald now weighs 14 stone two pounds (198lbs/90kg) and is now aiming to lose a further 25 pounds (11.3kg) to reach his ultimate goal.

Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Donald explained how his girlfriend helped inspire him:

The most difficult part was starting. When you believe you cannot achieve you begin the journey in failure and hopeless.

Luckily I found a girlfriend who inspired me. She got me out of bed and walking around. She showed me that I was not a failure and I needed to start loving myself as much as she loved me.

She was also a gym rat and my gym guru. I was very lucky because I had the support I needed from her and my children and my transition into healthy eating was made that much easier.

With my three children, I couldn’t just let myself die.

Previously Donald lived what he would describe as a sedentary lifestyle – he never did any physical activity.

Now he is a vegan and a dedicated gym goer working out four days a week without fail.

He told UNILAD although at the beginning he struggled with both the diet and exercise, he soon found himself enjoying it especially since it meant he could be more active with his kids.

Donald said:

I became a vegan, taking in between 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day while enjoying one cheat day a week – vegan cheating though so Indian and vegan restaurants.

I went from my completely sedentary lifestyle to working out four days a week and in the beginning I got my medical marijuana card in order to help with the pain. I no longer need marijuana.

The biggest change was my overall physical health. I spent most of my children’s lives not being able to play with me being shut in a bedroom that they would visit once in a while.

Now I’m active, out there with them living life and loving every minute of it! My family loves it!

Healthier both physically and mentally, Donald shared some before and after photos on Reddit proud of what he has achieved.

Receiving over 8,600 upvotes at time of writing (August 7), Donald was overwhelmed by the love his post was getting.

He said:

I love it I’m truly blessed. From the response I seem to be an inspiration.

It was a long journey which wasn’t easy but I have never felt better in my life.

Just don’t give up. If you fall off the wagon, get up, head high, without embarrassment or shame and get back on.

This is a journey not a race. Your concern is the destination not the speed. If you stick to your diet through the thick and the thin you will get there and if no one seems to have faith in you believe me I do.

Congratulations on your remarkable transformation, Donald!

Harry Potter Fan’s Living Room Looks Like Something Straight Out Of Hogwarts

As a proud Ravenclaw and Harry Potter fan, my house is decorated with various bits of merchandise from house cushions to quidditch flags and wands, all proudly on display.

I am sure many Potter fans’ homes have similar items dotted all over their homes, but 24-year-old Bre Santry from Richwood, Ohio, decided to give her living room a magical makeover like none seen before.

Solemnly swearing that she is up to no good, Bre has completely transformed her lounge making it the most mystical and extraordinary shrine to Potter.

While I am no interior design expert, I think it is undeniable Bre’s living room is beautiful:

Decorating her lounge with a mixture of Potter merchandise and magical-looking antiques which could have come straight from Hogwarts, Bre has been adding to her collection for the past four years.

A Hogwarts tapestry hangs over a sofa filled with various Potter cushions which includes a fluffy version of the Monster Book of Monsters.

Next to the sofa is Bre’s owl figure sitting comfortably in a golden cage and a bookshelf filled with Funko pop figures, the Marauder’s Map and the Harry Potter novels of course.

On the other side of the room the Sorting Hat sits on top of a Potter trunk while a broomstick is hung up on the wall behind it.

In every nook and cranny you can spot something you didn’t notice the first time as Bre has completed her makeover with attention to detail and love.

This is because Potter means a lot to Bre who was first introduced to the wizarding world by her dad.

Speaking to UNILAD, she explained how she was took in by J.K. Rowling’s creation:

The moment I saw the first movie trailer for The Sorcerer’s Stone I was hooked, and I was only in the first grade. My dad took me to see the movie unbeknownst my mum, who was strictly Catholic at the time and forbid it.

I just fell in love with the entire wizard universe. I brought home The Chamber of Secrets novel from school one day and watched my mum throw it into the trash. I think part of why I’ve submerged myself into the Harry Potter fandom so much as an adult is because I wasn’t allowed to openly enjoy it as a child.

After my mum divorced from my stepdad, who was strictly Catholic, she had no problems with it and she now also likes Harry Potter. She has also apologised many times and has admitted how silly the whole ‘Harry Potter is evil’ religious narrative is.

Bre and her mum now actually enjoy spending time in the magical living room together chatting about all things Potter over a pint of butterbeer.

Four years ago Bre and her husband went to visit Universal Studios where she brought her first Potter-themed decoration, the Hogwarts crest tapestry, as well as a box of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and a Chocolate Frog.

When they moved into their condo three months later, Bre had her ‘eureka’ moment deciding to decide her lounge to Potter.

Still adding to it Bre, who is mum to four-month-old identical twin girls Lily and Luna, doesn’t think her collection will ever stop growing:

The decorating in my living room pretty much started from there and I’ve been adding to it ever since.

Right now I’m working on making our guest bathroom Harry Potter themed as well because it’s just so boring and normal. And it’s an excuse to buy more Harry Potter things!

I will always browse the thrift stores and antique shops for anything that looks like it belongs in Hogwarts. My husband is a fan of Harry Potter himself, so he doesn’t mind the decorating at all.

While Bre struggled to choose her favourite part when UNILAD asked, she settled on the magic wand which controls the TV, saying she loves the looks on people’s faces when they visit and she turns the TV on with a quick swish.

My boyfriend actually got one for his birthday once and honestly, it really is the best thing ever!

Of course Bre would love to get numerous bits and bobs to add to her already extraordinary collection but what she really has her heart set on is a $350 Lionel Hogwarts Express Train Set.

If you add it to your Christmas list Bre, hopefully Santa will treat you this year!

If you have ever received a frustrating ‘sorry we missed you’ note from a delivery company knowing full well you were at home that day, well, I feel your pain.

Deliveries are meant to be simple. You order something either online or in store to be delivered to your house. You stay at home awaiting the delivery but no one ever knocks or calls.

Eventually you notice a missed delivery notice has been slipped through your letterbox leaving you angry, irritated and wondering what is so hard about knocking on a door. In fact, isn’t that meant to be the courier’s job?

gavin morgan abney delivers trollUNILAD

Tired of these notes, 31-year-old Gavin Morgan from Vancouver, Canada decided to do something about it setting up a fake company whose sole purpose is to troll couriers like FedEx and UPS sending them missed delivery notices.

His company, Abney Delivers, sends these funny notes to couriers on behalf of hundreds of exasperated customers who put in requests via Gavin’s website.

Sticking the notes on the doors of various UPS and FedEx centres across Canada, the reasons for missing the delivery include ‘address was a mirage’, ‘buzzer gave me the stink eye’, ‘recipient did not have 27 pieces of government ID’ and, my personal favourite, ‘buzzer tried to make fetch happen’.

Speaking to UNILAD, Gavin explained the idea came to him after a ‘really infuriating experience’ with the UPS customer service team.

He said:

I was expecting two deliveries from UPS in the same week. The first one was delivered fine. The second one, the driver left a note on the system saying my address could not be found. Apparently it didn’t exist.

My apartment address hadn’t changed, the buzzer worked, my building hadn’t disappeared and to this day, still hasn’t.

I phoned customer service and asked if they could try deliver again. The customer service person was convinced my address didn’t exist. She was really sure of this – even though her colleague had found the place a few days before.

I asked for my stuff to be delivered work instead and was told it’d cost $15 extra. That really p*ssed me off.

Always appreciating a good prank, Gavin started letting his imagination run wild thinking it would be funny to set up ‘the worst delivery company in the world’, the kind which would only leave notes saying they tried and failed to deliver the parcel.

Doing just that, Abney Delivers was born.

Although Gavin’s prank project started out small, as word spread with local blogs featuring his site, it began to spiral.

Receiving hundreds of requests on his website, Gavin can see why it is such a popular idea:

Friends and family thought it was hilarious. We all had the same experiences of these companies having terrible service and useless customer service.

There’s nothing you can do about it, so I think people really enjoyed getting their own back.

I had no idea it would keep going like this. My friends keep egging my on and helping spread the word which is nice but has also kept me pretty busy with a stupid drunk idea. Turns out people really hate delivery companies.

People really do, Gavin!

While Gavin is yet to receive a response from either FedEx or UPS, he has had plenty of funny looks from people in the shops which he has concluded is the best reaction he is going to get from the couriers who ‘just don’t care anymore’.

If you would like to join in the fun and send a funny missed delivery note to a courier, you can request one on Gavin’s website.

Although there are very few poisonous spiders in Britain, many of us will tremble with fear if we spot one lurking nearby.

Considering they are pretty much harmless, it is ridiculous the amount of times I have screamed for either my parents or my boyfriend to come and remove a creepy-crawly from the house.

Either killing the intruder or quite literally chucking it outside, it honestly didn’t really matter to me what they did as long as the spider was gone. Byeeeeeeeee!

boy distraught spiderUNILAD

Four-year-old Thomas is clearly a better person than me then as he refused to let his mum and aunt kill a spider which they found in his room.

When Thomas’ mum Emma and his auntie Eve discovered the arachnid in his bedroom, he wouldn’t let them kill the creature meaning they decided to throw it outside instead.

But as Eve went to the bathroom window with the spider trapped under a glass, Thomas ran after her in protest yelling ‘stop, stop’ before crying when she reached outside to empty the tumbler.

You can watch what happened in the video below:

Although Eve told Thomas the spider was okay as it ‘will still be alive’, this didn’t help easing his crying. Oh, Thomas!

Speaking to UNILAD, 19-year-old Eve from Birmingham said Thomas’ reaction took both her and his mum by complete surprise.

She explained:

He is a very funny and bubbly child but he does like a whinge when he doesn’t get his own way.

Still, his reaction came to us as a full surprise as he normally asks us to throw spiders away but he has been getting into nature quite a bit after we took him out to the park as the weather was lovely that week.

We didn’t expect him to get upset at all it was never like Thomas to get upset over spiders but to be honest he absolutely loves Batman and he’d been getting into Spider-Man a lot too so I can imagine that was half of it as well.

I don’t know, maybe he thought keeping him around would turn him into Spider-Man too! His mind is so creative it wouldn’t surprise me.

To be fair Eve, I am sure it is worth taking the risk and being bitten by a radioactive spider to gain Peter Parker’s web-slinging super powers.

What kid wouldn’t want to be Spider-Man!

boy distraught spiderUNILAD

When Eve and Emma found another spider in Thomas’ room, this time a lot smaller than the previous intruder, they decided to let him keep it as he clearly had an affection for the creepy-crawlies.

But as Eve added, Thomas actually wasn’t too bothered about his new friend as he didn’t even notice that one day the spider had just disappeared:

Thomas was so content with it but after a while his mum started to get a little creeped out by it so we let him loose in the garden while Thomas was at school.

It’s one of them with him, he’ll love something for about a day and then completely forget about it the next.

And so by the time he’d got back from school, he hadn’t even noticed the spider had gone!

And so Thomas’ friendship with arachnids quickly came to an end…
