James Bond Producers ‘Want Idris Elba To Play Next 007’

The name’s Elba, Idris Elba!

Ever since Daniel Craig announced he was tired of playing the iconic spy James Bond speculation has been rife as to who would replace him.

We heard rumours that Tom Hiddleston was in the running, that producers wanted Poldark’s Aidan Turner, in fact, it got so silly you could name any age-appropriate British actor and chances are there were rumours they’d be the next person to slip on Bond’s iconic tuxedo.

One name kept cropping up time and time again though in relation to James Bond, none other than the magnificently talented, Idris Elba.

The Independent is now reporting that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has decided the time is right for a non-white actor to take up 007’s license to kill and that Elba is the frontrunner for the role.

Broccoli’s reported to have made these remarks while in conversation with director Antoine Fuqua, and Fuqua believes this progressive move will happen sooner rather than later.

Fuqua said:

Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.

Rumours of Idris first playing Bond first began in 2014 when emails between high profile Sony Pictures executives were leaked by hackers.

The then co-chair of Sony, Amy Pascal, reportedly told a colleague over email that ‘Idris should be the next Bond’.

In the past Elba’s made comments that he’d like to play Bond but over time he seemed to lose enthusiasm for the role because people were politicising a ‘black Bond’ so much.

He told The Telegraph back in 2015:

It feels like I’m campaigning and I’m not. At first, it was harmless – oh, I know, wouldn’t it be great? – and now it’s started off racial debates.

I’m probably the most famous Bond actor in the world and I’ve not even played the role. Enough is enough. I can’t talk about it any more.

In a later interview with The New York Times, he went so far as to say that it bothered him people were so preoccupied with having a black Bond and not in seeing Idris Elba play Bond.

In recent years the Luthor star has distanced himself from the role even further, saying he thinks it might be time for a woman to play 007 telling Variety that it’s time to ‘do something different’.

He said:

Could be a woman – could be a black woman, could be a white woman – but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have… do something different with it, why not?

Should Idris choose to take up the mantle of Bond he’ll have to wait his turn because Daniel Craig’s still expected to make one more outing as the iconic British spy.

The Trainspotting director Danny Boyle has been brought in to work on Bond 25 (don’t worry they’ll work on a catchier title) and it’s reported he’s currently working on a script with his long-term collaborator John Hodge.

In a statement, Broccoli called Boyle ‘exceptionally talented’ and that they were excited to see Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond.

James Bond 25 will be released in the UK on October 25, 2019, and in the US two weeks later, on November 8.

Henry Cavill And Ben Affleck Are Done With Batman And Superman

batman and supermanThe world’s finest no more.

Both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are believed to be done with Batman and Superman, leaving the DCEU without a Dark Knight or Man of Steel.

The news came from Variety who reported that Warner Bros. is allegedly no longer developing Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.

Allegedly a decision was reached by Warners following Justice League’s disappointing performance at the box office to change the way they approached their comic book projects.

Instead, a new actor will don the iconic cape and cowl for Matt Reeves upcoming film The Batman, while Warners is expected to take the ‘Super-Franchise’ in a new direction by introducing Super Girl.

The news that Henry and Ben are set to hang up their capes wasn’t the only DC movie news.

Variety also reports that The Flash is going to arrive a lot later than people expected, so much for being the fastest man alive.

The Flash played by Ezra MillerWarner Bros.

The Untitled Flash Movie was expected to begin shooting in March but unfortunately, the script isn’t quite finished and the writers don’t believe they can tweak it in time for the start of shooting.

This is compounded by Ezra Miller, the man playing The Flash’s previous commitments to the Harry Potter spin-offs, the third of which will have begun shooting by the time they’ve finished polishing the script.

All of this means that The Flash film is now expected to begin production in late 2019 meaning the Scarlet Speedster won’t be running into cinemas until some time in 2021.

If that’s just too long to wait though don’t worry there’s plenty of DC heroes on the way to keep those who prefer their caped heroes a bit grittier entertained.

Later this year Jason Momoa and James Wan’s Aquaman is hoping to make a big splash at the ‘Star Wars-less’ December box office.

Scott Mendelson, a senior contributor at Forbes made an ‘optimistic prediction’ about Aquaman where he said it could (take this with a shovel of salt) a whopping $375m at the American box-office and amazing $1.102 billion worldwide.

Warner Bros.

Of course, that prediction’s so optimistic I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mr Men character Mr Happy had written it.

After that we’ve got two of the most eagerly anticipated DC comic films in years Shazam and finally Wonder Woman 1984 both of which look a lot more optimistic than other entries in the DCEU canon of films.

Aquaman lands in cinemas here in the UK on December 14 while Shazam is expected on April 5 2019.  No word on a release date for Wonder Woman 1984 yet but we’ll update you when we can.

Chris Evans Hints He Isn’t Done Playing Captain America After All

Ever since the end of Infinity War Marvel fans have been worried about what’s going to happen to their favourite Avengers when they face the deadly titan Thanos next year.

Most of the speculation centred on Robert Downey Jr’s and Chris Evans’ characters, because their contracts are allegedly about to expire, with fans guessing both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers would make the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe.

These fears were seemingly confirmed last week when Evans thanked the fans for supporting him over the last eight years on Twitter, adding that playing Cap had been an honour.

Fans were understandably freaked out at the tweet taking it as confirmation that Evans had hung up his shield for good, despite Cap promising us ‘he could do this all day’.

Commiserations may have been premature, however, as Chris has since backtracked on that original tweet claiming people have read a bit into it.

Speaking at ACE Comic Con in Chicago, he said:

I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler.

I should clarify that regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.

You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.

Earlier this year Chris Evans made it clear that he’s ready to retire from active duties telling the New York Times that he wants to ‘get off the train’ before he’s pushed.

Even if Chris is done with Captain America at least we’ll get to enjoy him one last time in the currently untitled fourth Avengers film.

The current theory is that the film will be titled Avengers: Annihilation but let’s be honest no one really has a clue aside from the good folk at Disney and they’re keeping quiet about the title.

Look hard…

A post shared by The Russo Brothers (@therussobrothers) on

Not that that’s stopped the cast and crew teasing us all with the reveal. Last month the directors, the Russo Brothers, released a cryptic Instagram post which people guessed may contain the title.

The best theory I saw was that the picture contained 4 As (as in Avengers 4) but others were convinced they could see all sorts of words in there including Endgame.

Whatever it’s titled Avengers 4 will see Earth’s mightiest heroes team up to try and undo the damage Thanos has done to the universe with the help of the newly introduced Captain Marvel.

Avengers 4 will be released in the UK on April 26, 2019, and in the US on May 3, 2019.

Will Smith has opened up about his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith in an upcoming episode of her show Red Table Talk.

In a trailer for the next instalment of the programme, Will can be seen sitting around the table with his wife Jada, their 17-year-old daughter Willow, and Jada’s mum Adrienne Banfield-Jones.

The series is described as ‘three generations of women’ who ‘open their home for a series of candid conversations with family and friends’ and sees the ladies, helmed by Jada, welcome guests to the show to open up and discuss certain topics. From mental health to religion, drugs and family, no subject is off limits.

Of course, a Smith family gathering wouldn’t be complete without Will, and after 10 episodes, it was high time he got involved.

In a sneak peek for the highly anticipated episode, Will can be seen opening up about his marriage to Jada.

Speaking to his daughter Willow, the actor admitted that ‘there was a period where mommy woke up and cried for 45 days straight, I started keeping a diary’, to which Jada responded: ‘you missed some days’.

He added:

It was every morning. I think that’s the worst I’ve ever felt in our marriage. I was failing miserably.

The couple have been married for 21 years. However, in the clip, the pair admit that they ‘don’t even call ourselves married anymore’, instead seeing each other as ‘life partners’.

In another teaser for the new series of Red Table Talk, the duo can be seen getting ready for the show, with Will saying ‘You’re not breaking me today, Jada’, to which she coolly replies ‘I’ve broken you enough’.

The trailer also shows Jada saying ‘I’ve dated a lot of people’, before Will jokingly storms off, saying ‘Alright I’ve had enough of the red table’.

Other guests include Leah Remini, with whom Jada clashed on social media over, of course, Scientology, and Willow looking rather perplexed by the whole situation.

Another significant relationship in Will Smith’s life is with his onscreen cousin and real life bro, Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

It might be 22 years since the show finished, but recently the pair have proved their friendship is as strong as ever.

Though primarily a comedy, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air had some truly emotional scenes, like the time Will got shot and Carlton bought a gun to try and protect himself, the time Will’s dad left again, or the time Carlton couldn’t deal with Uncle Phil’s health scare.

Throughout the programme’s run, the characters were never less than family, their on-screen relationships were obviously just as real off-screen (apart from, perhaps, Aunt Viv who suddenly looked a bit different after season three…), which is what made them so easy to watch.

So, it’s great to see Will and Alfonso still so close more than two decades since the show finished, and the Smith family sharing all for us to see.
