Ever since Daniel Craig announced he was tired of playing the iconic spy James Bond speculation has been rife as to who would replace him.

We heard rumours that Tom Hiddleston was in the running, that producers wanted Poldark’s Aidan Turner, in fact, it got so silly you could name any age-appropriate British actor and chances are there were rumours they’d be the next person to slip on Bond’s iconic tuxedo.

One name kept cropping up time and time again though in relation to James Bond, none other than the magnificently talented, Idris Elba.

The Independent is now reporting that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has decided the time is right for a non-white actor to take up 007’s license to kill and that Elba is the frontrunner for the role.

Broccoli’s reported to have made these remarks while in conversation with director Antoine Fuqua, and Fuqua believes this progressive move will happen sooner rather than later.

Fuqua said:

Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.

Rumours of Idris first playing Bond first began in 2014 when emails between high profile Sony Pictures executives were leaked by hackers.

The then co-chair of Sony, Amy Pascal, reportedly told a colleague over email that ‘Idris should be the next Bond’.

In the past Elba’s made comments that he’d like to play Bond but over time he seemed to lose enthusiasm for the role because people were politicising a ‘black Bond’ so much.

He told The Telegraph back in 2015:

It feels like I’m campaigning and I’m not. At first, it was harmless – oh, I know, wouldn’t it be great? – and now it’s started off racial debates.

I’m probably the most famous Bond actor in the world and I’ve not even played the role. Enough is enough. I can’t talk about it any more.

In a later interview with The New York Times, he went so far as to say that it bothered him people were so preoccupied with having a black Bond and not in seeing Idris Elba play Bond.

In recent years the Luthor star has distanced himself from the role even further, saying he thinks it might be time for a woman to play 007 telling Variety that it’s time to ‘do something different’.

He said:

Could be a woman – could be a black woman, could be a white woman – but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have… do something different with it, why not?

Should Idris choose to take up the mantle of Bond he’ll have to wait his turn because Daniel Craig’s still expected to make one more outing as the iconic British spy.

The Trainspotting director Danny Boyle has been brought in to work on Bond 25 (don’t worry they’ll work on a catchier title) and it’s reported he’s currently working on a script with his long-term collaborator John Hodge.

In a statement, Broccoli called Boyle ‘exceptionally talented’ and that they were excited to see Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond.

James Bond 25 will be released in the UK on October 25, 2019, and in the US two weeks later, on November 8.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has got serious social media game.

Instead of shying away from anything, instead of giving people the people’s elbow, he gives people what they want and embraces everything that comes his way. And how could he not – just look at those arms, they were made for embracing.

Before he became The Rock, and before he became the highest paid actor in the history of Forbes Celebrity 100, Dwayne spent some time as an earnest American football player with dreams of getting in the NFL.

After playing for the University of Miami, the actor went on to play for the Calgary Stampeders as a defensive lineman. Though he didn’t make it to the top level, his former teammates remember the man-mountain fondly.

Former Stampeder Stu Laird told The Globe and Mail:

He was like a Greek god, the wives all loved him.

Stampeders equipment manager George Hopkins said:

You do remember certain people… You could see that he had a charisma, he had that dazzling smile even back at that point.

He didn’t last long though, swapping football for wrestling and putting himself on the path to superstardom.

Though he’s had many roles in his career, the one consistent thing The Rock has always had is his incredible size. But it’s no easy feat maintaining that rock hard bod.

Dwayne takes on around 5,000 calories a day, chowing down about 2.3 pounds of cod as well as eggs, steak, chicken, vegetables and potatoes.

He must be doing something right though:

Thanks to his skills, physique, charm and rigged determination, the former wrestler was named the highest paid actor in the history of Forbes Celebrity 100 list, and ranked fifth overall on 2018’s Celebrity 100, rising 17 spots from his 22nd ranking in last year’s list.

Forbes claims that Johnson earned his record total ‘thanks to giant upfront paychecks and a cut of profits on blockbusters including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.’

‘Wow unexpected news,’ Johnson wrote on his Twitter account at the news. ‘I don’t have a Harvard MBA, but my business philosophy has been sharpened over time and thru failure. I have one boss I serve and connect with – the world and the people in it. I’m the dude who started w/ $7bucks. I’m awestruck ($124M) grateful & hungry.’

However, he wasn’t always the perfect specimen we’ve come to know and love these days, and his old football team thought it was a good time to remind him about it.

Taking to Twitter, the Calgary Stampeders posted one of Dwayne’s old headshots from his sportsman days.

They wrote:

Now that’s a nice headshot, eh @TheRock? #FlashbackFriday

However, as I’ve said, The Rock has great social media game and took the whole thing in his stride.

He replied:

6’5 280lbs of hungry nightmare (or thirsty dream pending one’s perspective). Also not sure why I thought shaving my goatee but keep my beard was a good choice. Someone throw chunky smiles over here another waffle. #RookieHeadShot #CFL #Calgary

It’s quite the transformation, but look at those eyebrows. Can you smell what he’s cooking?

Denzel Washington’s Son Perfectly Shuts Down Reporter Who Ignored His Mum

When your dad is the award-winning actor Denzel Washington, and as his son you’re also an actor, you’re probably going to be referred to as ‘Denzel Washington’s son’ quite a few times.

It’s an unfortunate by-product of being the offspring of Hollywood royalty, and lazy journalists are probably going to use the epithet fairly regularly.

But Denzel Washington’s son (see what I did there?) also has a mum. I know, weird right?

And Denzel Washington’s son John David Washington isn’t going to let you forget that. Your dad might have a number of Oscars to his name, but that doesn’t mean your mum – herself a successful actor and musician called Pauletta Pearson – doesn’t have her own fair share of amazing achievements.

Denzel hasn’t been quiet about his long-lasting partnership with Pauletta either. Speaking to People in a recent interview, he revealed the secrets to their happy marriage of 35 years.

John David Washington’s dad said:

I do what I’m told. I keep my mouth shut […] You can buy a house, but that doesn’t make it a home – and not to say a man can’t make a home a home, but my wife has made our house a home, and raised these beautiful kids [John David, 34, Katia, 30, twins Olivia and Malcolm, 27] and protected them and sacrificed for them, she did the heavy-lifting.

Pauletta’s son John David is starring in Spike Lee’s latest film BlacKkKlansman, in which he plays Ron Stallworth, an African-American police officer who manages to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan.

In a recent interview with Today, the reporter began a question to the actor with ‘Being the son of Denzel Washington…’ to which John David was quick to respond.

He coolly interjected:

And Pauletta Washington. [She] was earning more money than he was before they got married. She was on Broadway working and she paid for the first date, paid the bill, paid for the cab ride. She’s a classically-trained pianist, went to Juliard. She’s a great artist in her own right and I learned a lot from her. My father taught me how to hunt, my mother taught me how to love.

You can watch the moment here:

The Washingtons are a busy family, as well as John David starring in BlacKkKlansman, Pauletta’s husband Denzel is following up his brilliant film The Equalizer with – naturally – The Equalizer 2.

Though the first film wasn’t a critical success, it was a hit with fans and did well commercially, bringing in an impressive $192.3 million against a budget of just $73 million.

With a box-office like that, it’s clear why Sony was keen to develop a sequel to the first film, in fact, the studio was so confident in the film they greenlit it seven months before the first Equalizer movie was even released.

BlacKkKlansman will be in cinemas from August 24 in the UK and August 10 in the US.

The Equalizer 2 bursts into cinemas on August 17 in the UK and July 20 in the US.

Depending on how old you are or how you were introduced to the films, you’ll probably have one actor who just is James Bond.

If you’re a purist, it might the OG Sean Connery. Me, I’m partial to the comedy of Roger Moore balanced out by the suave sophistication of Timothy Dalton.

The current James Bond, Daniel Craig, has also, in my humble opinion, been an excellent Bond. Since his first appearance as 007 in 2006’s Casino Royale, Craig’s infallible portrayal of the character has won over many fans.

However, Craig’s version of the debonair spy has also attracted criticism from some viewers. The latest, however, comes not from a fan or critic but a former Bond himself.

Pierce Brosnan, who starred in four James bond films – from 1995’s excellent Goldeneye to 2002’s Die Another Day – has voiced his feelings with the current state of the Bond franchise.

Speaking to The Rake, Brosnan expressed his disappointment how Bond, and the newer films, seem to have lost their sense of humour:

There had to be humour, I felt. It is different now. They had strong competition and they haven’t reinvented it but given it a much more muscular, dynamic twist.

When I played him you have to let the audience in that this is a fantastic joke – this man, jumping off a motorcycle and catching up a plane, is completely preposterous. But for me you had to let them in.

That’s what I was brought up with. Sean [Connery] did it, Roger [Moore] did it par excellence.

The 65-year-old also revealed, the move towards to more sombre, brooding action heroes – inspired by the likes of The Bourne Identity and Mission Impossible – pushed him away from playing the role.

However, it seems the action-packed newer movies have also exhausted their current star, Daniel Craig, who’s publicly said, time and again, he’s tired of playing the iconic spy.

Ever since, speculation has been rife as to who would pick up the titular role.

We heard rumours Tom Hiddleston was in the running, and how producers wanted Poldark’s Aidan Turner. In fact, it got so silly, you could name any age-appropriate British actor and chances are there were rumours they’d be the next person to slip on Bond’s iconic tuxedo.

The Independent reported Bond producer, Barbara Broccoli, decided the time is right for a ‘non-white actor’ to take up 007’s license to kill and Elba is the frontrunner for the role.

Broccoli is reported to have made these remarks while in conversation with director, Antoine Fuqua, who believes this progressive move will happen ‘sooner rather than later’.

Though nothing has been confirmed so far, Idris himself has been toying with fans and dropped a pretty huge hint he might be picking up the mantel.

Posting an image of himself with the caption: ‘my name’s Elba, Idris Elba,’ the 45-year-old left fans reeling with the possibility he might be the next actor to order a martini shaken, not stirred.

Fingers crossed.
