GOOGLE says it will block users from accessing YouTube on some of Amazon’s best-selling devices… unless Amazon starts selling Google’s products.
It’s understood the popular video app will be inaccessible on Amazon’s Fire TV and Echo Show devices from January 1, if the issue between the feuding tech giants isn’t resolved.

Google puts its decision down to Amazon’s reluctance to sell Google’s gadgets, many of which compete with Amazon’s own offerings.
“We’ve been trying to reach an agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services,” a spokesperson told The Sun.
“But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products.
“Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”
As the world’s largest online retailer, it’s no surprise that Google is so keen to be featured on Amazon’s stock list.
However, with devices like Chromecast competing with Amazon Fire TV, and the Google Home smart speaker taking on the likes of Amazon’s Echo, Amazon has shown resistance to giving its competition a leg up.
However, its reasons for blocking Prime Video from casting, and for taking down Nest products (owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc.) from sale, are less clear.
Google is hoping to twist Amazon’s arm by holding back access to one of the world’s most used video apps, however access to it via a browser will still be possible, though not as user friendly.

Amazon’s statement seemed to suggest it had already acted to bypass the block, saying: “Echo Show and Fire TV now display a standard web view of YouTube.com and point customers directly to YouTube’s existing website.
“Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website. We hope to resolve this with Google as soon as possible.”
Home Bargains is selling a speaker with Alexa for £49.99… and it’s £40 cheaper than the Amazon Echo

HOME Bargains is selling a wireless speaker that can be controlled by voice-activation.
The device, which is called the Bluetooth Buddy Speaker, is compatible with Alexa, giving it many of the same capabilities as Amazon’s Echo.
Both speakers work with the Alexa app, allowing you to play music, listen to the news and check the weather.
Another popular feature is smart technology controls, meaning you can operate lights and the heating simply by speaking to the device.
The Amazon Echo claims to “fill the room with immersive, 360º omni-directional audio”.
And the marketing for the Home Bargains option is similar, promising “Vertical Audio Configuration (that) lets sound expand through 360°, filling the entire room.”
To get hold of the budget-friendly Home Bargains product, you must pre-order online before December 4.
And currently, you can purchase an All-new Amazon Echo (2nd generation) for £89.99.
While this is £40 more expensive, it may be the more appealing option for some as it can send calls or messages via the Alexa app.
This is not a feature that’s mentioned on the Bluetooth Buddy Speaker’s listings.
But unlike Home Bargains’ option, Bluetooth isn’t supported on the Echo.
As well as this, Spotify is only “coming soon” to the pricier tech item, while it’s already supported by the high-street’s.
While the Home Bargains option is similar to the Echo, newer models of the Amazon technology have even more functions to offer.
The Echo Show allows users to view photos and videos – all activated by voice commands.
The gadget will even show song lyrics as music plays, while videos calls can be made to friends and family members who also have an Echo device.
The Echo Look, which is yet to reach general sale, is equally sophisticated.
It’s the first version housing a camera that can be controlled by voice – and even has an algorithm called Style Check, which will rate your outfit.

Suppliers across Britain, France and Germany have been unable to stock up and Black Friday sales might also be hit.
One retailer said: “I am nearly £15,000 out of pocket when we are buying in for the December rush. If it continues, Amazon will be very low on products this Christmas.”
Another said: “Soon we will be taking all our business to eBay. I think Black Friday could be badly affected if this isn’t sorted soon.”
Amazon passes money on after taking a cut. Its system sends it automatically every two weeks or suppliers retrieve it themselves daily but neither is working.

Amazon expert Jordan Malik said: “If the sellers left in droves, it would not surprise me if, as a last resort, Amazon starts shipping items from US warehouses to UK warehouses.”
Amazon said: “We are working to resolve this matter quickly for the small number of sellers affected.”

Rose McGowan claims she was raped by Harvey Weinstein – and says Amazon boss Jeff Bezos canned her TV show after she complained to studio boss
ROSE McGowan claims Harvey Weinstein raped her – as she accused Amazon of killing her TV show when she demanded the shamed movie mogul not be involved. ROSE McGowan claims Harvey Weinstein raped her – as she accused Amazon of killing her TV show when she demanded the shamed movie mogul not be involved.
The actress made the explosive claims for the first time after apparently being paid £75,000 by the producer over an “incident” in the 1990s.
She claimed she told Roy Price, an executive at Amazon Studios, she had been raped by “HW” – in an apparent reference to Harvey Weinstein.
In a Twitter thread addressed to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, McGowan said: “I told the head of your studio that HW raped me. Over & over I said it.
“He said it hadn’t been proven. I said I was the proof.”
McGowan added: “I had already sold a script I wrote to your studio, it was in development. When I heard a Weinstein bailout was in the works.
“I forcefully begged studio head to do the right thing. I was ignored. Deal was done. Amazon won a dirty Oscar.”
The Charmed star then claimed she had her attorney demand the script back but "#2 @amazonstudios called to say my show was dead".
She continued: "@jeffbezos I am calling on you to stop funding rapists, alleged pedos and sexual harassers. I love @amazon but there is rot in Hollywood.
"@jeffbezos Be the change you want to see in the world. Stand with truth. #ROSEARMY #Amazon".
It's unclear what film script she is referring to or why she thinks Amazon won a "dirty Oscar."
Price has now been suspended by Amazon after separated claims were made against him by Isa Hackett, an executive producer on Amazon original series The Man in the High Castle and daughter of Philip K. Dick.
The Amazon executive reportedly made a lewd and sexually suggestive comment to his colleague at Comic-Con in 2015, reports TMZ.
Amazon told Variety: "Roy Price is on leave of absence effective immediately", adding: "We are reviewing our options for our projects we have with the Weinstein Company.”
McGowan's Twitter page was suspended on Wednesday but she launched into her rant at the Amazon founder after it was re-opened today.
The actress has been blasting others in Hollywood - including actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon - for failing to step up when they allegedly knew what was happening.
"Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein," Weinstein's representative Sallie Hofmeister said yesterday.
And fellow Brit Myleene Klass said she was offered a sex contract by the exec, but she told him to "f*** off".
Brit actress Emma Thompson claimed the Weinstein scandal “is just the tip of the iceberg”.
The Love Actually star, 58, said of the allegations: “They don’t surprise me at all and they’re endemic to the system.”
The Sun told yesterday how Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas and model Laura Whitmore feared for their safety around Weinstein.
Up to 30 women have so far come forward to accuse Weinstein of sex crimes - including three rape allegations.
But police fear the total may be much higher.
What we know so far:
- The Sun revealed Harvey Weinstein propositioned Myleene Klass with a sex contract, during a Cannes film festival lunchin 2010.
- The contract included a confidentiality agreement stressing she could not discuss any sexual relationship with Weinstein.
- Kate Beckinsale was also targeted when she was a 17-year-old schoolgirl by Weinstein now 65. The actress said her refusal to give in to the sleazy film-maker’s demands “undoubtedly harmed my career”.
- The FBI and police in New York and London have all opened investigations into Weinstein, with one cop calling him a “super-predator”;
- Emma Thompson compared him to serial sex offender Jimmy Savile, saying: “It’s the same story. He’s dangerous and what he’s done and what he’s doing is criminal.”
- Weinstein whined to photographers he was “a good guy” as he flew off to rehab for sex addiction;
- His long-time PR man in the UK quit over the tidal wave of sex allegations.
- Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment or abuse of more than 30 women. Three have accused him of rape.
- His wife Brit fashion designer Georgia Chapman has left him.
- The allegations have all been denied by Weinstein.
