PRINCES William and Harry arrive to tonight’s premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi to add a touch of regal sparkle to proceedings, showing that the highest echelons of British society love a good space opera.

The royal brothers surprised everyone as they joined Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill, plus many of the film’s other stars including John Boyega, Laura Dern, Oscar Isaac Andy Serkis and C3PO’s voice, Antony Daniels, at the star-studded event.

And the princes were met by none other than the franchise’s adorable knee-high robot BB-8, who rolled up to them but did not curtsy.

Newly-engaged Harry did not bring Meghan Markle with him, and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was also left at home.

They probably prefer Star Trek – though there’s plenty of girl power in the new movie, as the red carpet arrivals proved.

Daisy Ridley, who plays the film’s protagonist Rey, looked out of this galaxy as she wowed with a very space-age black number.

Wearing a long, vinyl, asymmetric black dress with choker detail, brunette film star Daisy giggled along with Mark as they chatted in front of the Royal Albert Hall.

Famous prankster Mark, 66, is returning for his first main role in a Star Wars movie in this installment, and has been tipped for an Oscar nomination.

Meanwhile this will be the last Star Wars movie featuring Carrie Fisher, aka Princess Leia, and the film ends with a moving tribute to “our princess”.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, the bulk of the cast arrived to celebrate their latest work, which has been met by great reviews already.

Flanked by Stormtroopers – as well as C3PO and R2D2 – Londoner John Boyega arrived in a velvet tuxe to celebrate his return as the character Finn.

The actor looked ecstatic to be there, after impressing in his first Star Wars effort The Force Awakens in 2015, which led to him landing lots of other major roles.

Joining the movie stars on the carpet was Myleene Klass, looking gorgeous in a black bombshell dress with a thigh-high split.

Pop star Tallia Storm went for a more colourful look, showcasing a spangly, nude-coloured stappy dress with a pink belt.

Things didn’t go very smoothly for one star arriving to enjoy his performance tonight, though.

Fans gathered at the security barrier spotted that the movie’s star Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe Dameron, was stopped by Royal Albert Hall security staff demanding to see his ticket as they didn’t recognise him.

Eventually he and his partner, director Elvira Lind, got through and hurried inside.

Meanwhile new Star Wars addition Laura Dern arrived in a very pretty strapless pink feathered gown.

The Twin Peaks star paired the gown with a black choker and kept warm with black boots under her dress.

And another newbie, actress Kelly Marie Tran, looked equally dreamy in a cream tulle gown that trailed behind her.

Strictly’s Alexandra Burke decided to go for a suit made of sumptuous green velvet, over a lace leotard, for her appearance at the London theatre.

Four dapper old hands in the Star Wars universe – Andy Serkis, Antony Daniels, Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson – proved their tuxedo mettle as they showed up.

And Game Of Thrones heroine-turned-space baddie Gwendoline Christie stunned in a long, sheer dress decorated with dark dots.

Other guests included model and actress Amy Jackson, boy band The Vamps and Kingsman actor Mark Strong.

The Last Jedi picks up where 2015’s The Force Awakens left off – with Rey getting to know the fabled Luke Skywalker, after discovering the recluse on an island.

Whether Luke has gone to the Dark Side – and whether Rey too will succumb to that side of the Force – remains to be seen.
