CHRISTMAS will be here before we know it, and Primark’s officially getting in the spirit – with a range of novelty hats.

The budget store is now selling a whole range of festive hats, with prices starting at £5.

Primark is now selling novelty elf hats with EARS – and they cost just £5

IT’S enough to haunt any parent – the cheap toys of Christmas past compared with today’s.

In 1980 kids were thrilled to unwrap a £1 Rubik’s Cube – £4.66 in today’s money.

Today’s hot gift is a Paw Patrol toy worth £54.99… this has helped push up prices of old favourites

But now hi-tech play- things have sent the ­average price of the ­season’s best-sellers soaring to £82.99.

Even with inflation, Mum and Dad proportionately pay up to 20 TIMES more for gifts.

The first high-tech toy was 1991’s Game Boy at £69.99 – equal to £146.28p today – and the rest is history.

Discount site MyVoucherCodes got the prices from the Toy Retailers’ Association.

MyVoucherCodes site boss Chris Reilly said: “Toys today do cost more.

“Families should search for deals.”
